Efforts of rotarians lauded, new members urged to carry the mantle forward
CHANDIGARH: Praising the several initiatives taken by rotarians for their initiatives to help others, advisor to the Administrator UT Chandigarh, Manoj Kumar Parida, said that the numerous projects worth over Rs.2 crore including renovating the toilet block in cremation ground, initiating the health education centre, help to Pulwama martyrs, blood donation van, and sweets worth Rs.8 lakh for jawans on borders are some of the projects worth taking note of.
Parida said this while addressing Rotary Club of Chandigarh at their installation meet at CII here yesterday. Former Chief Commissioner of Income Tax and Ombudsman of Punjab Electricity, Rotarian Surinder Paul Kaur, took up the leadership of the club for a year from her predecessor Rotarian Amrit Pal Singh Dhiman.
He said that looking at these achievements, Chandigarh Administration too will be willing to support any endeavour of Rotary Club. He also commended Rotarian P J Singh and his wife Dr Rajinder Kaur for contributing USD 60,000, last year, and contributed another USD 10,000 on the occasion to The Rotary Foundation. He also inaugurated the new Back-to-School project for the next Rotary year which is funded by philanthropist Satbir Singh Kohli, who created corpus of Rs 10 lakh last year and announced Rs 1 lakh addition during the function, so that meritorious children who drop out of school because of lack of funds should be able to resume their studies.
Two students of government schools were presented the bag of books, stationery, uniform, and cheques for their fee on the occasion. President Surinder Paul Kaur listed out the projects she had planned for the year including completion of Health Education Center, water harvesting, environmental care, literacy, TB-free Chandigarh, club foot treatment. Past Rotary International president Rajendra K. Saboo and past rotary international director Yash Pal Das, past district governor Kawal Bedi, spoke on the occasion. The new board of directors of the club for 2019-20, included vice chairman Reema Dhiman, secretary Abha Sharma, treasurer Anil Khanna, joint secretary Karan S Bhandari, director club service Charanjit Singh, director vocational service Neenu Vij, director community service Gurvinder S Saggu, director international service Praveen Aggarwal director youth service Jatinder Kapur, Sergeant-at-Arms Kewal Seth.
