First overseas evacuation flight to Chandigarh arrives on Friday

As part of the Air India’s overseas evacuation plan, the first flight will arrive at Chandigarh International Airport from Ukraine on Friday. The next flight, scheduled to land in Chandigarh on May 30, will be from the USA.

MOHALI: As part of the Air India’s overseas evacuation plan, the first flight will arrive at Chandigarh International Airport from Ukraine on Friday. The next flight, scheduled to land in Chandigarh on May 30, will be from the USA.
The flight from Ukraine will come via Delhi and reach Chandigarh at 1.30pm and depart at 2.30pm. The number of passengers is undisclosed till now, said Chandigarh International Airport Ltd (Chial) spokesperson.
As per the plan, four flights (two arrivals and two departures) will operate on May 22 and 30 to and from Chandigarh International Airport.
On May 30, the flight from the USA via Delhi will arrive at 10.05am and depart for Delhi at 10.45am.
Mohali deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan said all the NRIs arriving by air would be kept in quarantine either at paid accommodations or at their homes, depending on their choice. He said, “We have already arranged for their screening at the airport and those found with symptoms will be isolated, whereas asymptomatic cases will be quarantined for 14 days.”
Domestic ops to resume by May 25
Soon after a tweet from aviation minister Hardeep Puri suggested that domestic flight domestic flight operations may resume from Chandigarh by May 25, Chandigarh International Airport Ltd CEO Ajay Bhardwaj said, “We are fully geared up to resume flight operations.”
He said though they so not have any official intimation from AAI in this regard, all systems are in place to resume operations at a short notice. “Our office is working as it was before the lockdown and the security setup is in place. Checking of passengers will be done according to the guidelines issued by the government.”
Earlier, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) issued guidelines for opening domestic sectors. “Carry hand sanitiser, wear mask and register on the Aarogya Setu app,” the AAI told passengers in an advisory.
