For Sujanpur MLA, nothing is bigger than humanity

CHANDIGARH: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Rajinder Singh Rana, MLA, Sujanpur, Himachal Pradesh, delivered a special lecture on “The Gandhian Relevance in the Contemporary World” here on Tuesday. He explained how his motto in life was that ‘nothing is bigger than humanity’. He emphasized that through social services the same message should be spread among masses and they be inspired to walk the path Gandhiji.
He started his lecture talking about his experiences in life, ranging from helping women who have suffered due to the Kargil war to help marry 5,807 poor girls off till date.
Rana also donated Rs 21,000 to the department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University.
Moreover, Amarjeet Singh, OSD to Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, delivered a lecture in which he emphasized that “we should always try to be ready for any adverse situation that might arise and follow the Gandhian ideals in their real essence”. He laid put emphasis on education, which is the only way to move forward, to achieve something in life and bring back values in our society.
Prof Shankarji Jha, DUI, Panjab University, in his address highlighted the importance of this day by explaining the history of Mahatma Gandhi and highlighting the requirements of the contemporary world with importance being given to science and technology while laying stress on non-violence. On this occasion, the Best Mali Award for the year 2018 was awarded to Radheysham, Prof R C Paul Rose Garden, Panjab University, which included a cash award of Rs 2,100.
The department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University, organized a week-long celebration of Gandhi Jayanti from September 25 to October 2. The best volunteer of NCC award for 2018, which included a memento and an appreciation certificate, was awarded to senior under officer (SUO) Bipul Raj and Sergeant Prakriti. A special student of Society for Rehabilitation of the Mentally challenged (SOREM), Sector 36, Chandigarh, Gaurav was presented with a memento and an appreciation certificate for his participation and a gold medal win in 500m roller skating at the Special Olympics World Summer Games, 2015, held in Los Angeles, USA.
