Former IAF officer, 74, shoots himself in Mohali

MOHALI: A 74- year-old retired officer of Air Force allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a 0.12 bore rifle at his house on Saturday afternoon. No suicide note has been found.
The deceased has been identified as Karnail Singh, a native of Raipur village near Chamkaur Sahib. He was presently living in a rented accommodation with his wife and daughter-in-law in Sector 69, Mohali.
Police said that the man fired himself in his chest.Two shells were found from the spot.
“As of now, we have ruled out any foul play. He committed suicide due to depression,” police officials said.
A few years ago, the deceased had met with an accident and lost the ability to speak and hear.
“When we reached the spot, the deceased was lying in a pool of blood. During preliminary investigation, we found that he may have first fired the in the air to check if it was functional. The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family members after postmortem,” cops said.
