Foswac to table Chandigarh's grievances on June 16
Paid parking is among one of the issues which would be brought up for discussion in the Federation of Sector Welfare Associations meeting
CHANDIGARH: Paid parking, water crisis, power cuts and garbage segregation- which have troubled the residents across the city- will be discussed in Federation of Sector Welfare Associations (Foswac) meeting scheduled on June 16.
Recently in a meeting with the UT adviser, a delegation of the Foswac proposed how Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and market associations can help the authorities in managing the paid parking issue in the city.
The broad proposal is to issue smart cards with chips containing details of the vehicle's registration number, make, model, owner's name and Aadhaar number. Through this smart card, the commuter will have to pay Rs 200 for cars, Rs 100 for scooters and Rs 500 for pick-up vans on a per month basis. All the parking lots should be fenced with artistic grills as per 'heritage city' norms and fixed with mast lights wherever not available to light the parking lots. There should be proper barriers on entrance and exit controlled using by smart cards.
Residents of various sectors have been complaining that from the past two months, they have been approaching MC with their grievance, but to no avail. Residents said they had made several complaints through various platforms to the area councillor and the MC about the low water pressure and insufficient supply on first and second floors. Foswac will table this issue in its meet on June 16.
The issue of irregular garbage collection has also irked city residents. Many had complained that nobody would come to collect garbage from their sector for as many as three days a week. RWA added that garbage collectors have been opposing the hiked collection rates. Unscheduled powercuts are yet another issue which has plagued the residents.
Foswac chairman Baljinder Singh Bittu said the association is planning how to take up the issues with the authorities who have been accused of inaction.
