MOHALI: Police have booked four persons of allegedly duping a man of Rs 12.50 crore on the pretext of buying property from him. The accused constructed shops on the complainant’s land and sold them.
The accused have been identified as Rajiv Agarwal of Sector 12, Panchkula; Sompal Chohan of Yamuna Nagar; Jaideep Ghai of Mohali and Harkesh Gupta of Sector 8 Panchkula.

“We have registered a case on the complaint of Gulshan Ray Satija of Savitary Towar, Zirakpur, against the accused under Sections 406, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code at Zirakpur police station. The accused are yet to be arrested as we are investigating the case,” the cops said.
“Jaideep Rai registered a company in 2008 and owns 11,300 yards of commercial land on VIP road in Zirakpur. He purchased this land from me in 2012 for Rs 21.25 crore. As per the agreement, he had to pay Rs 1. 50 crore in December 2012, 1.50 crore in January, 2013 and the remaining amount by August 2013. However, he only gave the first installment,” the complainnt said.
“As the possession remained with the accused, they managed to get approval for construction of shops. Later, they constructed shops at the land and sold them. Meanwhile, the accused contacted me and promised to make me their partner. For this, he asked me to return the first installment they had paid. Believing them, I returned the amount. When the accused refuse to give me my share of Rs 12.50 crore, I met Punjab CM, who ordered senior officers of Punjab police to look into the matter,” the complainant added.
