Four Tricity students in top 100 in AIIMS entrance exam

CHANDIGARH: Four Tricity students made it to the top 100 in the AIIMS MBBS exam, the results of which were declared on Wednesday evening.
Chetanya Mittal of Sector 35 topped the Tricity after scoring all-India rank (AIR) 4. Amritesh Singh Grewal came second with AIR 12 followed by Ishan Gupta with AIR 14 and Gautam Kaushal with AIR 54.

Last year, three students were in top 10 and six in top 100.Tricity students had managed to score all India ranks 3, 4, 10, 15, 30, 92 and 93. At AIR 3, the city had witnessed one of the best top rankers since 2014 last year. It was in 2013 that the city had a better rank (AIR 1). Mehak Arora had got AIR 3 in 2018.
In 2017, the AIIMS result was termed disappointing as no student made it to top 10 and only two students were in the top 100 list. Navtej Mangat, a student of St John’s High School, Sector 26, had secured AIR 40 and Ankush Jindal from The British School, Sector 44, was ranked 65. In 2016, five students had made it to the top 100. Out of the five, only one was in the top 10. In the last 10 years, city students have secured AIR 1 thrice in 2013, 2011 and 2010. However, they have made a mark in top 10 in the decade except for 2009, 2012 and 2017. Most toppers scored better in AIIMS as compared to NEET exam with their ranks visibly going up. According to them, they were better prepared for AIIMS and learned from the mistakes they made in NEET.
Thousands of Tricity aspirants appeared for the AIIMS online exam conducted on May 25 and 26 in two slots with centres mainly located outside the city. AIIMS MBBS 2019 was conducted for admission to 800 MBBS seats across nine AIIMS institutions, including two new AIIMS established at Guntur and Nagpur.
