Haryana child rights panel holds workshop in Panchkula

A capacity building workshop on child protection laws and counselling practices was held by Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights at Awas Bahwan in Sector 6, Panchkula.

PANCHKULA: A capacity building workshop on child protection laws and counselling practices was held by Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights at Awas Bahwan in Sector 6, Panchkula.
Counsellors of conflict management, counselling centres established by the department of education, Haryana, and of Sukoon project of Haryana health department attended the seminar.

They were told about the issue of child sexual abuse and related legal frame works.
Jyoti Bainda, chairperson of Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chaired the workshop and inaugurated the session.
"It is important to identify cases of child abuse and report them. It is our responsibility to protect the rights of children and we should make efforts to raise happy and healthy children," she said.
The workshop had sessions by Professor Adarsh Kohli of PGI, Chandigarh. He addressed the participants on the concept of child of sexual abuse risk factor and the unique nature of child sexual abuse.
The session on laws against child sexual abuse was held by Manbir Rathi, Master Trainer, Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA).
He spoke in detail about the laws, including compensation schemes for victims. Another session on techniques and therapies was conducted by Arzoo clinical Psychology, Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh.
