In Mohali, stay Off Ghaggar
A flood-hit road
MOHALI: Heavy rain has forced deputy commissioner Girish Dayalan to issue a flood advisory, which tells people to stay off the raging Ghaggar river and remain on alert in the other lowlying areas.
The district administration has kept a close watch on the situation and pitched relief camps at different locations. The DC has called district officers back from station leave and put them on alert for any emergency.
He said: “We had to release 15,236 cusecs of water into the Ghaggar on Sunday because of heavy rain. The people living on its banks should take full precautions. The evacuation of people and cattle from the low-lying areas is necessary.”

The subdivisional magistrates of Kharar, Derabassi, and Mohali as well are on high alert. Many other officers of the district administration have orders to stay in their headquarters and watch the situation. The DC says that the administration is ready with an emergency plan, so the general public need not hit the panic button.
Top officers have orders to reach out for help at any place and time, man their posts without exception, avoid any human injury or loss of life, save livestock, evacuate people on slightest sign of danger, and assess loss of property. The SDMs and executive magistrates are supposed to mobilize field machinery and be ready to respond. Kanungos, patwaris, and panchayat secretaries should also remain on alert. Public can contact them at +91 88728 47036 and +91 98141 72803. The DC has told them to be out in the field, be visible, stand with people, identify places to evacuate in case of flood.
Seven Derabassi villages in peril Additional DC Sakshi Sawhney told the media that seven Derabassi villages—Tiwana, Alamgiri, Khajur Mandi, Sarsini, Deher, Danghera, and Sadhanpur—were reported to be waterlogged due to the release of water from the Kaushalya Dam on a tributary of the Ghaggar river in Pinjore. The relief camps for these seven villages are at Jashan Palace and Government School in Lalru.
