Modi my inspiration: Ex-ADGP from Tamil Nadu in Haryana poll race
Kamaraja (C) is yet to join BJP, but is already planning to fight polls for it
SIRSA: Former IPS officer V Kamaraja, who plans to join BJP and is staking claim to the party ticket from Sirsa, has said he wants to join politics to serve society and is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kamaraja, a 1987-batch officer of the Haryana cadre, retired as an additional director general of police (ADGP) in 2015. Though he has worked in Haryana for nearly 30 years, Kamaraja hails from Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district.

Of late, he has been meeting BJP workers in the constituency and trying to get support from them by citing his incidents from the time he served as the SP (traffic) of Sirsa in 1990. “At the time, terrorism was at its peak. I was informed that three terrorists were in Dabwali. I was wearing a lungi, but I still reached the spot along with a team, and we shot dead the terrorists hidden in mustard fields,” said Kamaraja, while speaking to party workers during a meeting in the second week of March.
Dabwali is on the border with Punjab, and the effects of terrorism were felt in areas of Haryana bordering the state.
As Kamaraja is not in the BJP and does not hold any organisational post, he plans to join the party and has spoken to local leaders about it, and his ticket too. The name of Haryana minister of state Krishna Bedi has also been proposed for the party ticket from Sirsa.
On March 4, Kamaraja attended Mahashivratri celebrations at Tara Baba Kutia in Sirsa and met former minister of state Gopal Kanda, an influential politican-businessman from Sirsa who has formed the Haryana Lokhit Party. Last week, Kamaraja met BJP officials in Sirsa and Dabwali, and expressed his desire to contest from here.

BJP Sirsa district general secretary Vijay Wadhwa said Kamaraja met him and showed desire to contest the elections for BJP. “He has been clearly told that the worker will be given their support who get the ticket from party, he said.
Kamaraja is not the only one
Kamaraja is not only former government officer who is vying for the BJP ticket from Sirsa. Wife of IPS officer Rajesh Duggal, Sunita took voluntary retirement from her job of a deputy excise and taxation officer before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections so that she could contest for the party from Sirsa. However, as the BJP let former ally Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) field its candidate from the seat, Sunita could not contest last time. Now the chairperson of Haryana Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation, Sunita is vying for the party ticket again. However, having spent five years in the BJP, she says she will do what the party decides for her and the party ticket is not a priority.
