CHANDIGARH: Agitating employees of the National Health Mission (NHM) on Saturday announced to extend their strike till February 18 even as the health department department on Friday terminated the services of 700 more employees.
With this the total number of agitating workers, who have been terminated so far, has gone up to 2,700. Seeking regular employment, the NHM workers have been on strike Since February 6.
The Friday’s termination has been done in Gurgoan and the civil surgeon had reasoned disciplinary action as reason behind the termination of services.
The civil surgeon has terminated those who are participating in the strike,
Two rounds of talks between the mission director and representatives of NHM workers’ union have failed. Workers say that the government was deliberately delaying the action. “All the government needs is a political will. We are hearing this for the past many years. Now, we shall take this fight to a logical end,’’ said Vijay Kumar Sharma, an office bearer of the Ambala unit of the NHM association.
The NHM had began in 1999 in a bid to meet with the situation arising out of vacancies of medics, para medics and clerical staff.
There are a total of 13,000 such staffers, who are struggling to get the regular government employment.
