No restarting of flights from Hisar for now: Dushyant Chautala
Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala
HISAR: Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, who also has the civil aviation department under him, has ruled out resumption of flights from Hisar for now.
Before the assembly elections in October, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had inaugurated the flight on Hisar-Chandigarh route on September 3. Private carrier SpiceJet had started the flight but it was stopped on September 19 due to the outdated lighting system for landing planes.
Dushyant said resuming flights from the Hisar airport would mean putting lives of passengers at risk.
According to the officials of the Haryana civil aviation department, take-off and landing of flights at the airport required 5 km of visibility. They said flights couldn’t be operated from the airport if the visibility was less than that.
According to the information available on the website of the Haryana civil aviation department, out of the five airstrips in the state, Pinjore, Bhiwani and Narnaul do not have the facility of night flights while Karnal airport does. Hisar airport had gooseneck light facility that was used during the World War II era.
The deputy CM said he had studied the issue of operating flights from Hisar in detail. “Flights from Hisar may face problems due to the lack of proper lighting system. Without this facility, take-off or landing even during daytime required visibility of 5km, which is not available during winter due to fog,” he said.
“For flights to resume, a lighting system will be installed at the airport so that flights can operate even if the visibility is less than 5km,” Dushyant said.
