Patiala’s Devdarshdeep Singh tops in PCS
Patiala: Patiala resident Devdarshdeep Singh, 24, has secured the top position in the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) examination, results of which were declared on late Friday evening. Devdarshdeep is son of Sahitya Akademi awardee Shiromani Sahitkar Darshan Singh Aasht.
Devdarsh had been a merit-holder student in Class VIII, which he did from Punjabi University’s model school and then again achieved merit in Class 12 from Budha Dal Public School, Patiala.
Thereafter, he got 3rd rank in civil engineering examination cleared in 2016 from IIT-Delhi.
His mother Rajwant Kaur Punjabi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Punjabi at Punjabi University, Patiala. In April this year, Devdarsh had bagged first rank in Punjab and 12th rank overall in the UPSC-conducted IFS examination.
Devdarsh said, “Besides the Almighty, I am thankful to my parents, teachers and all those who supported me at every step…without them I am nothing. I worked hard and devoted around eight hours a day to studies. However, I would prefer to go for Indian Administrative Services (IAS) or Indian Forest Service (IFS). Besides my studies, I have interest in reading literature that makes my knowledge vast.”
His father Darshan Singh said, “My son has brought laurels to us and the state by achieving this rank. We used to live within the Punjabi University campus. I used to write books for children and have achieved numerous awards including Sahitya Akademy award. Dev has made all of us proud with his achievement.”
Devdarsh added, “I also had interest in writing the way my father does as a Sahityakar (litterateur) but could not devote much time for reading and then write to become a writer. I am passionate about my mother tongue. I also love to teach the under-privileged children. I have a love for nature and that’s why, I would also like to work for the environment.”
