CHANDIGARH: Seven members of the boy's family received injuries allegedly after being attacked by the family members of the girl during the engagement ceremony at Sector 25 on Thursday night, the police said on Saturday. However, later both parties reached a compromise and no FIR was registered.
Rahul, a resident of Sector 38 and brother of the groom-to-be, stated that they had gone to the house of the girl in Sector 25 for the ring ceremony.
There, the two sides entered a verbal duel over completing the rituals. Rahul alleged that when he was having dinner, girl's father Roshan Kumar hit him with his slippers.
In protest, Rahul and his family members walked out of his house, leaving their meals midway. As they were returning, the girl's family and other relatives allegedly started pelting stones on them and also assaulted them with sticks. In the stone-pelting, seven persons including three women were injured, he alleged. They tried to save their lives by hiding themselves in the nearby buildings, and ran towards Sector 38. But, they were chased till their houses. On getting information, cops from Sector 11 police station reached the spot, but the accused managed to flee. Cops rushed the injured to GMSH-16 for treatment, and to avoid further clashes, police personnel were deployed at the hospital, and in Sector 25 and 38.
