CHANDIGARH: Tricity police departments have adopted a model of sharing information through WhatsApp group of their respective areas to curb crime rate, said senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nilambari Vijay Jagdale during a meeting of Foswac on Friday.
The move comes following UT administrator V P Singh Badnore asking Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali to start coordinating for law and order during TOI summit It’s Chandigarh’s Time held on July 10.
The SSP said Badnore had last conducted a meeting in which the focus was on better coordination to control crime. She said the Tricity police departments have created a network on social media to pass on the information about any crime in their area so that criminals cannot escape easily. She said the coordination has helped reduce street crime.
Earlier, at the Foswac meeting, J S Gogia, general secretary, called police departments of the Tricity to work together to control the crime rate. Kawaljeet Singh Panchi, RWA representative of Sector 18, also referred to TOI summit, saying police department coordination was also discussed in advisory council meeting. He said the departments have to work on this model to decrease the crime rate.
