CHANDIGARH: A woman from Punjab’s border town of Ferozepur was found dead in a Sector-17 hotel room here on Wednesday night. Ranju Chopra, 44, was staying there with her husband, Ashwin Chopra, and daughter since May 23.
On Thursday afternoon, autopsy couldn’t happen at the Sector-16 Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) because the doctor was unavailable, but the Sector-17 police ruled out foul play after inspecting the hotel room.
After recording the statements of members of Ranju’s family, they said: “Ashwin Chopra was with a friend in the room when his daughter told him that her mother lay unconscious on the floor. They moved Ranju to hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Hospital officials called police, who moved the body to mortuary for analysis.”

Central division deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Krishan Kumar said: “The woman died of an asthma attack she had last night. Our preliminary investigation and the family’s statements suggest no other cause of death. The family is into trading business and it wanted to move to Chandigarh. Sector-17 police registered the case under Section 174 (inquest proceedings) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
