MOHALI: Braving heavy rain and waterlogged roads, traffic cops of Mohali managed movement of vehicles without anything to protect themselves from getting drenched on Wednesday. Bollywood actor and AAP leader Gul Panag tweeted a photograph of one such policeman posted at Zirakpur on her Twitter handle on Wednesday, with a word of appreciation.
She, however, tagged Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh in the post and asked him to provide better rain-protection gear to policemen..

Her tweet went viral within minutes. By Wednesday night, it had been liked 1,400 times and shared 345 times. The cop seen in Panag’s photograph has been identified as head constable Gurdhian Singh. “Dear @capt_amarinder sir, hardworking traffic policemen like this gentleman, would be immensely helped by good rain gear and a pat on the back. This is under the Zirakpur flyover, Patiala road (sic),” she wrote.
Tricity received heavy rain Wednesday. Though the weather brought relief from the scorching heat, it troubled commuters with traffic snarls. In Mohali district, the downpour left several areas in Zirakpur waterlogged. Traffic was also affected at some busy stretches and there were many traffic jams on Chandigarh-Ambala highway.
The Patiala light point under Zirakpur flyover was also waterlogged.
As per the information, a traffic cop, Gurdhian Singh, came forward and started to guide the vehicles to avoid any sort of trouble to civilians. Despite repeated attempts, Panag could not be contacted for comment.
