3.5 lakh passengers travel in Chennai metro feeder services

Nearly 3.5 lakh passengers travelled in share auto and share taxi services launched by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) in the last nine months to reach their destinations. Last month, around 45,494 passengers used the facility available at 13 stations.

CHENNAI: Nearly 3.5 lakh passengers travelled in share auto and share taxi services launched by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) in the last nine months to reach their destinations. Last month, around 45,494 passengers used the facility available at 13 stations.
As many as 38,206 commuters used the share auto facility in May. More than 11,900 among them these commuters used the facility at Guindy metro, one of the popular metro stations, followed by 7,257 at Thirumangalam, a station that connects Anna Nagar and neighbourhood, and 5,283 at Alandur, which is a transit hub.
The remaining 7,288 passengers used share taxi services -- 1,732 commuters in Koyambedu, 1,601 at AG-DMS and 1,247 at Alandur transit facility.

CMRL launched share auto and taxi services on a trial basis on August 11 last year to provide commuters with last mile connectivity. Autos are operated from seven metro stations on designated feeder routes with a flat rate of Rs 5.
Share taxi services are operated from six select stations covering a 3km radius with a flat rate of Rs 10. CMRL officials earlier said that the facility, which has received good response from commuters, would be extended to all the 32 stations by August 2019.
