CHENNAI: A central team has arrived in the city to understand the best practices of Tamil Nadu, which has the lowest mortality rate in the country, nodal officer Rajendra Ratnoo said.
Ratnoo, who is coordinating Covid-19 measures between the Centre and the state government, held a press meet on Thursday at Amma Maligai. “We should be able to prevent and contain the spread of the virus, but if it spreads, we should at least not lose lives.
In that aspect, TN has emerged the best in the country,” Ratnoo said. He said the team would explore if the practices could be adopted elsewhere in the country.
The team will be in the city for three days and will visit Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Ariyalur, Villupuram and Cuddalore. Though it was too early to conclude, Ratnoo said early detection and more tests could be a reason for the lower mortality rate.
Corporation commissioner G Prakash said the city has reached 18,000 tests per million and 65 lakh has been collected as fines from those not wearing masks.
