CHENNAI: A
cab driver stabbed his mother to death at
Palavakkam here on Monday night over a property dispute.
Police said Barnabas, 36, murdered his mother, Raniammal, 52, at her residence in Maniamma Street at Palavakkam.
Raniammal had been living alone. Her husband, Njanaprakasham, died five years ago. Her elder son is settled in Bengaluru, while her second son, Barnabas, and her two daughters live in Chennai.
Raniammal owned a 450-square-foot plot in the city.
Barnabas wanted her to transfer it to him. But the woman wanted to divide it equally for her four children.
During a quarrel over the property on Monday night, Barnabas, who was drunk, stabbed his mother to death.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s daughter Veniammal, the
Neelankarai police registered a case and arrested Barnabas.
Barnabas is married and has three children.
