Chennai: Covid-19 patient found dead inside hospital washroom

CHENNAI: A 65-year-old woman who had disappeared from the corona ward at Government Stanley Hospital (GSH) on Tuesday was found dead inside one of the washrooms of the hospital on Wednesday.
Police said that the woman may have slipped down and died of internal haemorrhage due to the impact.
Those admitted at the corona ward noticed the elderly woman was missing on Tuesday and informed the hospital staffs.The staffs in turn alerted police personnel posted at there. They searched for the woman in all places. As there was no relative or friend enrolled as attenders of the senior citizen, police failed to proceed in the woman missing case.
Meanwhile, some of the hospital staffs noticed one of the washrooms remained locked on Wednesday morning. They broke open the door to find the elderly woman lying on the floor. The woman was taken to the emergency ward in the hospital and doctors examined her and declared that she her had died several hours ago. Later, the woman's body was sent to the morgue at the GSH.
The deceased woman hailing from Red Hills complained of cough and fever last week. Health workers at Red Hills suspected she might have been infected with coronavirus and collected nasal swab samples from her.
After she tested positive for coronavirus the health centre admitted her at GSH for further treatment. Inquiries revealed that the woman was staying alone at a rented house in Red Hills. The Red Hills police are inquiring to know how did she contract the disease. Some neighbours told police she had visited a nearby vegetable shop. Police suspected the woman might have contracted the disease through some vegetable vendors from the city.
