CHENNAI: A woman set ablaze by her husband in
Avadi last week died of burns on Wednesday despite treatment. Her husband, who was earlier in the week arrested for attempt to murder, will face now face
murder charges.
Police said the victim,
Vishnupriya, and Suresh, who worked as a car driver, had not been on good terms for sometime as he suspected her of infidelity. The couple had two children.
Following frequent altercations, Vishnupriya moved to a hostel. During the lockdown, Suresh, claiming he could take her to their hometown in
Tiruvannamalai district, took her on his bike, doused her with petrol and set her ablaze behind a bush near
Melapakkam in Avadi. Passersby took Vishnupriya to
Kilpauk government hospital where she died.
