CHENNAI: A mahila court in Chennai and a fast track court in Tiruvallur have awarded double life imprisonment and five-year imprisonment to two men for sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl and an eight-year-old girl in Tiruvallur and Chennai.
A fast track court in Tiruvallur convicted 20-year-old A Krishna for sexually assaulting an eight-yearold girl when she was alone at her thatched hut inside a brick kiln near Pattabiram in 2018.

Judge Bharanidharan awarded Krishna double the life imprisonment for sexually assaulting the minor and another five-year jail termapart from ₹7,500 as fine amount. The judge also indicated that he shall remain in prison for another 18 months if he failed to pay the fine and shall have to undergo all the sentences concurrently. Police arrested Krishna under the Pocso Act and he was remanded in prison.
In the incident in Chennai, the Adyar all-women police registered a case against a 24-year-old man identified as Narendra who ran an electrical shop, for sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl when she was alone at home on December 5, 2016. Her mother who worked as a maid at a house returned home and found her daughter crying. Later, she informed her mother that shopkeeper Narendra abused her while she was playing at her house.
Based on the woman’s complaint, police arrested the man under the Pocso Act. Mahila court judge Manjula pronounced the verdict on Thursday. She awarded Narendra a 5-year jail term and fined him Rs 5,000 after confirming him guilty.
