CHENNAI: The coming days may not be pleasant as during the past weekend but the city is expected to get rain in the evenings and night. .
A met department forecast on Monday said, "The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in some area during evening or night."
The city had been getting overnight rain and was experiencing cloudy days because of upper air circulation.
That will change as the upper air circulation is no longer there.
"There will only be convective rain triggered by high day temperatures," said a met official.
The forecast for Tuesday said the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 34°C and 26°C. On Monday, Nungambakkam recorded 34.7°C and Meenambakkam 32°C.
In a post, private weather blogger Pradeep John said, "Upper air circulation gone, clear skies, fish scales seen, bright skies and sunshine. We are back to thunderstorms from evenings and night." The rain, however, might not be widespread, he added.

The day temperature was considerably high on Monday compared to that on Sunday. A live weather update showed that mercury level touched close to 35°C close to 1.30pm and started to dip for the rest of the day. The previous day, the temperature was mostly under 30°C and the mercury crossed 30°C only around 4.30pm.
The city and its suburbs usually receive rain during evening or night for a few days in August due to the southwest monsoon effect.
When the monsoon rain nears a break in other parts of the country, north Tamil Nadu and its coastal areas receive some rain. However, it is not widespread but only falls in short spells.
