Soon after this year's Indian Premier League, the start of 2019 cricket World Cup in England and Wales has only taken the frenzy among cricket enthusiasts to the next level. So much so that even the commercial establishments in the city have gotten everything in place to let the fans soak themselves in the cricket spirit. On Friday evening, there was one such event organised by the Phoenix MarketCity and Palladium.
A Guinness World Record was set there unveiling the largest cricket bat. The bat weighing 6600 kilos, made from 6300 kilos of willow wood; and 51 feet long; is made in accordance to ICC Cricket standards.What added excitement to the whole affair was the presence Kapil Dev, former Indian captain who along with his team won the first World Cup title for India in 1983. While he shared his happiness seeing such a record being created in Chennai, he also wished the Team India and praised Indian captain when asked if he saw himself in Kohli. “Not at all. He’s too good. I don’t think I can compare myself with Kohli. He’s too good. He’s one of the best players in the world and we’re proud about our captain. All I want to say is good luck to the entire team and I hope that we don’t have any more injuries coming our way. Keep on playing the way you play now and we’re sure you’ll win the Cup for us,” shares Kapil. After unveiling the record-breaking bat, Kapil even signed on it and said that we should try and get all the players who’ve played for India so far to sign on the bat.
