Man arrested for sexual assault, murder of minor girl in Tamil Nadu

NAGAPATTINAM: Police arrested a 30-year-old car driver for sexually assaulting and murdering a 15-year-old girl near Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday night.
The accused has been identified as K Kalyanasundaram of Siddan Kathiruppu near Sirkazhi.
Around 7pm on Saturday, the girl, who was a Class X student at a government higher secondary school in the area, went to the backyard of her house to relieve herself.
After some time, the family members of the girl heard her screams. They rushed to her rescue and found her struggling for life with injuries on her neck and face.
She was taken to Sirkazhi Government Hospital where doctors declared that she had been brought dead.
On information, a team led by Sirkazhi deputy superintendent of police Vandhana and Thiruvenkadu inspector Manimaran reached the spot and conducted inquiries.
The police, who came to know about the activities Kalyanasundaram, questioned him. He confessed to having committed the crime, police said.
According to police, the man, who was in an inebriated condition, noticed the girl when she went to the backyard of her house. He took her to a secluded place and sexually assaulted her. When she raised an alarm, he trampled her neck and face leaving her unconscious, police said.
The Sirkazhi all-woman police registered a case against Kalyanasundaram. He was remanded in judicial custody.
