CHENNAI: A sub-inspector of police investigating a murder case was attacked with a beer bottle near a Tasmac bar at Kolathur on Saturday night.
Few weeks ago, a man was found murdered, his private parts mutilated, in Rajamangalam police station limits. Police launched a search for the suspects of the murder which they believed was a result of enmity. Antony Ramesh, 38, a sub inspector of police from Rajamangalam police station had gone with his colleagues to the bar, where a gang suspected to be behind the murder, was drinking.

Not finding the gang members, the police team checked the CCTV footage collected from the bar. They parked the vehicle on the road around 9pm and started questioning a few people. Even as the inquiry was on, they saw a man who was drunk, creating a ruckus. He was hurling stones at some of the passersby and verbally abusing some people at the bar.
Ramesh got out of the police vehicle and asked the man, identified as Sathish Kumar, 22, to leave the place. But Kumar, a resident of Srinivasa Street at Kolathur, refused to budge. After an argument with the sub-inspected, Kumar went inside the bar and returned with a beer bottle. He smashed the bottle on the head of Ramesh, who was on a phone call.
The SI suffered injuries of the head and swooned. Policemen nabbed Kumar who tried to escape. They took the SI to Stanley Medical College Hospital. The Rajamangalam police arrested Kumar and remanded him in judicial custody.
