CHENNAI: The city is expected to get more night rain on Monday. For the second day, the city received good showers on Sunday.
Nungambakkam recorded 17.1mm and Meenambakkam received 26.7mm till 5.30pm on Sunday. “The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely to occur,” a forecast from the met department said.
The rain, which lasted throughout the night in strong spells, was the result of a cyclonic circulation over north Tamil Nadu.
Suburbs received more rain on Sunday. While Madurantagam received 7cm rain, Sriperumbudur got 6cm, Chengalpet and Tindivanam got 5cm, Tambaram, Chembarambakkam, Poonamallee and Cuddalore received 4cm, DGP office got 3cm, Kelambakkam, Poondi, Anna University received 2cm on Sunday, the met office said. There was water stagnation of less than one feet at 30 locations in the city due to the overnight rain. Water was cleared from R A Puram Second Cross Street, Pattulos Road, Srinivasa Nagar Junction, Karthikeyan Salai in Thiru Vi Ka Ngar and a few other places.
The rain also helped reduce the day temperature. “Maximum temperature is likely to be around 31°C and minimum temperature will be 25°C,” the forecast said. However, there may not be much rain on Tuesday and temperature is likely to touch 33°C.
