CHENNAI: The Chennai city police have arrested a 35-year-old man who murdered a drunk man at Retteri in May by cutting his
genitals after a homosexual encounter and also attempted to
murder another drunk man in nearby
Madhavaram in the same manner on June 1.
The arrested man has been identified as K Muniyasamy of Manamadurai. The Madhavaram police arrested him based on CCTV footages.
The police said the man confessed to having committed the offences under the influence of alcohol.
On May 26, Aslam Basha was found lying unconscious at Retteri with his genitals slashed. He was admitted to hospital. Basha told the police that he had inflicted injury on his genitals due to excessive drinking and depression. After his death, the police registered a case of suspicious death.
During interrogations, the police stumbled upon another similar case in Madhavaram. The injured man in the second incident, who was undergoing treatment in Government Stanley Hospital (GSH), told the police that he had a homosexual encounter with a stranger when he had been under the influence of alcohol. He told the police that the stranger had cut his genitals.
The police checked CCTV footages from Retteri and from Madhavaram. In both footages, the visuals of a suspect appeared. The police, who released the photos of the man, identified him with the help of locals and arrested him.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
