CHENNAI: A 25-year-old robbery suspect, who was nabbed for questioning by the Neelankarai police, died on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as V Anthony, a resident of Ezhil Nagar in Perumbakkam.
Anthony was booked in at least eight cases, including robbery cases. Police said Anthony had been abandoned by his family when he was a teenager. After that he started to commit crimes, according to them.
The police, who suspected Anthony's hand in a robbery case, nabbed him on Thursday night.
It is alleged that he was taken to the Neelankarai police station. On Friday morning, he developed health complications and was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
However, a senior police officer said Anthony had been unwell when they had nabbed him. “He was taken directly to hospital, where he died. He was not taken to the station,” the officer said.
The body was moved to the Royapettah Government Hospital for postmortem.
