CHENNAI: At least
six fishermen from Kasimedu went
missing after their
boat sank in mid sea, allegedly due to a crack in the skull of the boat.
The fishermen, all from Kasimedu fishing harbour, ventured into sea on June 4, since then they have been missing. They were identified as Madhi, Pugazhendi, Srimanraj, Karuthakannu, Paulraj and Durairaj.
Since they did not return till Thursday, their families met officials of the fisheries department and requested them to trace the men.
As per the officials’ direction, they lodged a complaint at Fishing Harbour police station on Saturday. Coastal police have also been alerted and a hunt has been launched for them.
Police personnel have informed other
fishermen to keep an eye out for survivors
at sea. The officials said their radio frequency suddenly disconnected from the coast after almost five hours, estimating that they could have reached 80 nautical miles from the shore. tnn
