CHENNAI: A section of legal fraternity has urged chief justice of the Madras high court not to post litigations concerning women and Christian educational institutions to Justice S Vaidyanathan, who made controversial remarks against both in his recent order.
The lawyers led by senior advocate R Vaigai has also demanded that the judge suo motu recall his August 13 order and delete his controversial observations against misuse of women centric laws.
Highlighting the dangers of using the judicial pulpit for pronouncing such unconstitutional personal views of judges, the representation said, such observations become judicial order, carrying extraordinary weight and authority, unlike a statement made by an ordinary person. The representation further added that the observations of the judge about compulsory conversions is provocative and unbecoming of the office he holds and indicates a deep rooted suspicion and antipathy to persons belonging to a particular religious community which falls within the definition of hate speech.
