CHENNAI: Indian
chamber of food and agriculture has conferred
‘global agriculture award’ on
Tamil Nadu for its
excellence in agriculture sector.
Food grain production in the state surpassed 100 lakh metric tonne sixth time in a row for the past eight years and the state bagged the Union government’s Krishi Karman award five times for promoting crop specific technologies. Through collective farming scheme, 4,000 farmer producer groups have purchased 16,649 farm machineries with a corpus fund of Rs 200 crore.
Micro irrigation is being implemented in a mission mode in the state to tide over water stress.
The concerted efforts of the state resulted in 1.42 lakh hectares covered under micro irrigation in 2018-19, for which 700.69 crore was extended to 1.39 lakh farmers.
