CHENNAI: Police arrested a 44-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son on Monday for stealing valuables after breaking open locked houses in Valasaravakam. Inquiries revealed that the mother-son duo was earlier involved in a couple of burglary cases in Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts.
The duo, identified as K Nagaraj, and his mother K Santhi, are residents of Kalvaipottal in Sivaganga district.

Police said they received a complaint from Abu Backer, 41, a resident of Valan Nagar in Valasaravakkam, that the suspects broke open his main door and stole four sovereigns of gold and Rs 50,000 in cash from his house.
Abu Backer mentioned in his complaint that he had gone to a hospital in Thousand Lights for a medical check-up on October 22. On returning home the next day, he said he was shocked to see the door lock broken and gold and cash missing from his house.
A police team led by assistant commissioner Mahimaiveeran traced the suspects after scanning CCTV footages and several rounds of enquiries.
Employees of a private firm in the same locality told police that Nagaraj had walked into their company in search of a job. The suspect had left behind his mobile number at the entrance register, which helped investigators get a breakthrough. Police said they tracked the mobile number and arrested the man and his mother.
