192 kids narrowly escape electrocution
Dehradun: Around 192 students in a government school in Majra narrowly escaped electrocution after roofs of three classes started leaking and many parts of the school had current running through. School officials also said that students complained of electric shock through wet walls.
On Tuesday, members of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (USCPCR) inspected Government Primary School, Majra, and directed the education department to take action at the earliest and inform the commission about action taken.
The school authorities said that they had informed the education department about their plight repeatedly since 2008, but to no avail. A letter by the principal of school to the chief education officer of Dehradun dated April 16, 2018, said, “The condition of our school is very tardy and during rainy seasons most of the classroom roofs face leakage. There is a possibility that roofs may collapse. We request you to kindly get the school building repaired on priority.”
The chief education officer of Dehradun, S B Joshi, said, “The education department has already zeroed in on such schools which require infrastructure upgrading.”
