DEHRADUN: As many as 26 new dengue cases were reported in Dehradun on Saturday, taking the toll of patients suffering from the vector-borne disease to 158.
Dr SK Gupta, chief medical officer (CMO) Dehradun, told TOI that among the 26 new cases reported on Saturday, one is from Udham Singh Nagar while 25 are from Dehradun district.
“The health department is coordinating with the civic body to ensure more and more fogging is done in areas which have reported the maximum number of dengue cases.
We request people to wear full-sleeve cloths to avoid mosquito bites and ensure there is no stagnant water in their neighbourhood to allow breading of dengue-carrying mosquitos,” the CMO said.
Health department officials said they were following various mechanisms, including area-specific analyses to getting various departments like education, civic body and local urban bodies to work together to combat the disease.
A senior official from Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC), who didn't wish to be named, told TOI that dengue attacks get severe every third year and 2019 is that year. “The last time we witnessed a dengue spurt was in 2016, when more than 2,000 dengue cases were reported in the state within four months,” he said.
