51 new dengue cases reported in Dehradun
Dehradun: With 51 new cases of dengue reported in Dehradun on Tuesday, the toll has reached the mark of 483 in Uttarakhand. According to official figures, 51 is the highest number of dengue cases reported here in one day for the on-going season.
Also, the team of district vector borne disease officials visited the district child rehabilitation center and Shishu Niketan area of the city and found dengue larvae in coolers.
The team destroyed several buckets and pots in which water had stagnated, making it a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes, also known as tiger mosquitoes. Six people in Nehrugram were given medicines by the health department.
“Monsoon is the most conducive season for the growth of tiger mosquito which is responsible for transmitting the dengue virus from one person to another. Aedes mosquito can lay about 1200 eggs at a time and 400-500 larvae can emerge from these eggs that take a week’s time to hatch,” said Dr DP Joshi, district vector borne officer.
Talking to TOI, Dr SK Gupta, CMO said that written intimations are being sent to government departments and in schools asking authorities to opt for preventive measures for dengue.
“The symptoms of dengue are persistently high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In acute cases, the platelet number decreases drastically which could prove fatal for the patient.
According to reports, over two dozen dengue cases were also reported in Haridwar district this year. The health department, however, is still claiming that only 12 patients of dengue were reported from other districts so far.
