DEHRADUN:
Uttarakhand police, as part of its special drive against the smuggling of liquor, drugs and illegal arms ahead of the
civic polls, have seized over 9,000 litres of alcohol, 213 kg of contraband and about 73 illegal firearms since the model code of conduct came into force on October 15.
“Police have stepped up the pre-poll vigil across the state and since October 15, and have seized 9014 litres of liquor, 213 kg of drugs and have arrested over 60 bootleggers,” said
Ashok Kumar, additional director general of police (ADG) law and order.
According to police officials, liquor and other spurious substances can be used to purchase votes ahead of polls. Certain candidates buy smuggled liquor at cheap prices to lure voters, which is why police makes extra efforts to curb the smuggling ahead of elections.
