Banking services hit in Uttarakhand as employees go on strike
Dehradun: Scores of government bank employees, belonging to the All India Bank Officer’s Confederation (AIBOC), observed strike on Friday demanding hike in wages and opposing the proposed merger of regional gramin banks, and merging of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda.
The AIBOC is the apex body of bank officers’ trade union movement comprising over 3, 20,000 members.
AIBOC secretary of Uttarakhand Pramod Ranjan Kukreti said they have also demanded for five-day week in government sector banks and added that if their demands are not met another strike will be launched starting from first week of 2019.

“We want revision of our wages based on the minimum wages formula without linking to profits or paying capacity. We have also demanded increase in the health insurance premium and safety from anti-social elements,” Kukreti told TOI.
Meanwhile, local had a tough time as the banks were non-functional. With Chirstmas round the corner, many people were seen making a beeline outside ATM outlets to withdraw cash.
“I came outside to shop for Chirstmas, but it seems that my plans are taking a back seat as there is a long queue outside the ATM here. I am running out of cash, I hope the stores have PoS machines,” said Annie Thomas, a resident of Dalanwala.
With the strike in effect, all leading banks will remain closed till December 26, except Monday when government sector banks will stay opened.
