BJP to celebrate anniversary of 2016’s surgical strike on Sep 29
Dehradun: Uttarakhand BJP has planned to celebrate Shaurya Diwas, anniversary of the surgical strike on September 29, in all 13 districts by organizing two mega events, in Dehradun and Haldwani, to honour the martyrs’ families.
In 2016, a special squad of the army had carried out the surgical strike in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir on 29 September which was tagged as the most daring action taken by the NDA government.
After two years, BJP is now celebrating the anniversary to take political mileages ahead of the crucial 2019 elections.
Sharing details about the two events, BJP state president Ajay Bhatt, “The events, one each in Dehradun and Haldwani, are our way of honouring those who have sacrificed their lives for the country. Even in the past, we have held programmes for the ex-servicemen here.”
BJP MLA, Khatima, Pushkar Singh Dhami, said, “Over 200 retired defence personnel, including award winners and their family members living in Kumaon, would be part of the programme.”
The opposition, however, calls the celebration a political move. “BJP forgot to celebrate the surgical strike in 2017. This year, since the elections are just round the corner, they are. I challenge the BJP to celebrate the Demonetisation Day this year,” said Congress leader Suryakant Dasmana.
