Compliant filed against paper mill for dumping waste

Lalkuan: A complaint was filed against Century Pulp and Paper Ltd on Saturday for allegedly dumping tonnes of sludge near a resident’s house in Lalkuan area of Nainital district.
A resident of Halduchaur, Daulia Neema Pandey, in her complaint, has alleged that the stench emanating from the sludge is making her and other residents difficult to breath.
“This sludge has been dumped outside my house. Due to this, my neighbours are suffering from the foul smell coming from the waste,” Pandey told TOI.
Howebver, the management of the company said they are not involved in the dumping of sludge as the work is outsourced to contractors.
“This is a serious matter for us. We have talked to our contractors about it, and the sludge will be removed from there soon,” SK Vajpayee, manager of the Century Pulp and Paper Ltd, told TOI.
Meanwhile, circle officer of Lalkuan police, Yogesh Chandra Upadhyay, told TOI, “We have talked to the contractor about this. The contractor has assured us that the sludge will be relocated within two days and the complainant will be compensated appropriately.”
