Dehradun police arrests liquor, drug kingpin
DEHRADUN: Police on Sunday arrested a notorious bootlegger and peddler, believed to be the kingpin of liquor and drug smuggling in Rishikesh and Haridwar, and seized over 1 kg of charas and 12 grams of smack from him.
The accused, identified as Gurucharan, is a history-sheeter of Rishikesh and has around 37 cases registered against him under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Excise Act.

“He has been actively involved in smuggling of illicit liquor and drugs in Rishikesh and surrounding areas. On receiving information, our team intensified checking at the forest barrier and managed to nab Gurucharan and recover the contraband from his possession,” said Nivedita Kukreti, SSP, Dehradun.
Police also seized an electronic weighing machine, estimated to be worth over Rs 2 lakh, from him.
During interrogation, Gurucharan told police that he used to bring the contraband from Bareilly from a person named Suleiman and sold it to youngsters in Rishikesh and tourists who came for rafting in Muni Ki Reti area of Rishikesh.
He has been booked under section 8, 20 and 21 of NDPS Act and was presented before the court on Sunday.
His wife, Shanti Devi, is also a history-sheeter and a peddler, who supplies contraband in hostels and hotels located in Rishikesh area, police said.
