MUSSOORIE: A tourist from Delhi killed himself at a guesthouse here after sending a voice message to his wife threatening her to commit suicide. His relatives found the body on Wednesday morning, following which police was informed. Police have sealed the guest house which was found to be running illegally.
Shyam Kumar, 33, a resident of Mangolpuri area of New Delhi had arrived in Mussoorie on August 19 with his wife Jyoti, 30, and two children.
Jyoti’s brother and his wife were also with them and they were staying at a guesthouse near Gandhi Chowk here.
According to Deepak Singh, Jyoti’s brother, the couple had an argument late on Tuesday. “After a few drinks, my brother-in-law had an argument with my sister. We tried to pacify him but he retired to another room. My sister and the children went to another room to rest,” Deepak told police.
Station house officer of Mussoorie police station Bhawana Kainthola said that around 11.30 pm, Kumar had sent a voice message to his wife in which he had threatened to commit suicide. Deepak added: “We did not take him seriously as in the past, too, there have been several arguments between him and my sister and he had issued such threats earlier also.”
However, on Wednesday morning, when the family went to Kumar’s room to wake him up, he did not answer. On peeping through the window of the room they saw Kumar hanging from the fan.
Bhawana SHO added: “The couple was married for the past 12 years and have two children — a nine-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy. The family told us that they would have frequent arguments as the man suspected his wife of having an affair and the woman was not happy with the man’s less income.”
He added that they have sent the body for post-mortem and the parents of the deceased have reached Mussoorie.
