DEHRADUN: Dehradun district magistrate SA Murugesan ordered all schools in the district to remain closed on Tuesday after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning of rains and snowfall in several districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun and Haridwar. Schools in Haridwar will also remain closed on Tuesday.
“In view of the warnings issued by the IMD, the administration has decided that schools and anganbari centres should remain closed on Tuesday, keeping in mind the safety of school-going children,” DM Murugesan said.

Several districts of Uttarakhand, in both Kumaon and Garhwal regions have witnessed heavy snowfall for the last several hours. On Monday, the IMD said that Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Chamoli, Udhamsingh Nagar and Tehri are expected to receive rains or snowfall in the next 24 hours.
Following the Met department’s warnings, the disaster relief force and the administrative officials in the state have been put on high alert. Agencies like Public Works Department (PWD), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Central Public Works Department (CPWD) have also been put on alert, in case an accident happens and they are needed to repair damage.
