DEHRADUN: Income Tax (IT) officials on Friday carried out simultaneous raids on 12 business establishments in two states belonging to the family of Anil Goyal, former vice president in the Uttarakhand BJP. Goyal also contested Rajya Sabha elections from the state as a BJP candidate in 2016. According to an affidavit submitted to the election commission in 2016, his net worth was Rs 12.40 crore.

Over 200 IT sleuths swooped down on businesses of the Goyal family in Dehradun, Roorkee and Yamuna Nagar in Haryana on Friday. The family owns Quantum University in Roorkee as well as Umang Sarees on Rajpur Road in the state capital. They also have businesses related to hardware trading, plywood and aluminium panels.
Commissioner, IT, investigation wing, Amrendra Kumar told TOI that 200 sleuths raided businesses belonging to Anil Goyal’s family in Uttarakhand and Haryana. “Our teams are probing allegations of suppression of sales, unaccounted receipts and unaccounted investments,” said Kumar. He alleged that Goyal’s house in Dehradun was also raided where one of his relatives attempted to flee the house with wads of cash in hand but was nabbed.
Goyal, who also held the post of state BJP treasurer, is considered close to senior BJP leaders. He was a ticket aspirant in the recently concluded mayoral polls in the state. The ticket ultimately went to Sunil Uniyal Gama, the current mayor of the state capital.
BJP spokesperson Devendra Bhasin told TOI that Goyal does not hold any position in the party’s organizational structure now. Goyal was unavailable for comment.
