Jilted lover strangles girlfriend, commits suicide in Doon

Dehradun: A jilted lover on Tuesday allegedly strangulated his girlfriend to death and then hung himself from a ceiling fan in a flat in Jakhan area of the city. The couple had been in a relationship for a year-and-a-half.
Police said that Krishna Malhotra, 22, had seen his 19-year-old girlfriend with her neighbour in October and since then, they used to have arguments since Krishna suspected her of having an affair with her neighbour.Finally on Tuesday, Krishna asked the girl to come to his brother-in-law’s flat in Jakhan where he killed her and subsequently committed suicide. “The CCTV footages show that they entered the flat around 4 pm. Prima facie, it looks like a case of murder and subsequent suicide,” Rajpur SHO Arvind Kumar said, adding that they are investigating the matter from all angles to rule out foul play.
Krishna’s brother-in-law, Paramveer, told police, “I had asked him not to escalate the matter and sort things out with her. But he was very upset and had mentioned that he cannot live without her.”
Paramveer added that he got worried when Krishna could not be contacted since Tuesday afternoon. “His phone was switched off and we were looking for him. When I reached my flat, it was locked from the inside and I called the police. We then found both the bodies inside,” he said.
Krishna was the only brother in a family of five sisters and used to help his brother-in-law in the family’s restaurant business while the girl’s father was a lawyer and had died some years back. She was a second year student of a city-based college and was living with her sister and mother in Dalanwala.
