HARIDWAR: Long
traffic snarls caused hardships for tourists as well as local residents on Sunday as queues of vehicles slowed down the traffic on
Haridwar-Dehradun highway for several hours. It took two-to-three hours for commuters to pass the Haridwar-Saptrishi route, which is the only route for going to
Dehradun and
Rishikesh.
“It is not first time that we are witnessing traffic snarls. The scenario will change only after the highway construction is completed.
In case of an emergency, patients also get caught up in the traffic, thus, immediate measures must to taken,” said Vishal Garg, a Haridwar resident.
In view of the snarl, heavy traffic force was deployed to clear the stretch. Speaking to TOI, Abhay Singh, circle officer, said, “A large numbers of pilgrims have come to Haridwar for taking a holy dip on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya on Monday. Char Dham yatra pilgrims and tourists, who come to spend weekend, also entered the city. However, we restricted all heavy vehicles to enter the city and also deployed extra police force on the highway. We are trying our best to keep the routes clear.”
