Man duped of Rs 8.5 Lakh in name of lottery in Dehradun

DEHRADUN: Nehru Colony police on Wednesday registered a case of cheating against unidentified persons, who duped a local resident of Rs 8.5 lakh on the pretext of offering him Rs 12.6 lakh which they claimed that he had won in a lottery.
According to the complainant, he received a call from an unknown number on his mobile phone on October 26 claiming that he had won a lottery of Rs 12.6 lakh.

The victim mentioned in his complaint that the accused told him to deposit Rs 6,500 as processing fees to get the lottery money.
However, they kept increasing the amount and eventually made him deposit Rs 8.5 lakh in different bank accounts.
Police officials said they have launched an investigation into the matter.
