BAGESHWAR: A leopard declared a maneater in Dyangad village of Bageshwar was shot dead by a team of forest officials on Wednesday evening. The leopard is believed to have killed two children in this village following which it was declared a maneater. Last week, local residents had gheraoed the local MLA, DFOs and SDMs alleging inaction by authorities.
Hunter Joy Hukil, who was leading the team told TOI, “It was a female leopard about eight years old.
Its nails had been eroded so it was looking for easy prey and moving towards human habitation. It had attacked children. First we tried to tranquilise it, but it attacked us and I had to shoot.”
