Merchant Navy officer commits suicide in Dehradun

DEHRADUN: A 28-year-old merchant navy officer committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of a hotel room on Saturday in Tyagi Road, police said on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Shravan Mahendra, a resident of Salim Nagar in Hyderabad, reached Dehradun on Saturday evening and checked into a hotel.
Police also found a suicide note, which stated that he took the extreme step as he was in depression.
“Hotel staff found him hanging inside his room on Sunday morning. They immediately informed police and we reached there and opened the room,” said Dinesh Kumar, in-charge of Lakhibagh police chowki.
Police have informed Mahendra’s parents who are expected to reach Dehradun on Monday.
